Save the Food, San Diego! is an initiative of the San Diego Food System Alliance. Since 2015, the Alliance has spearheaded this county-wide food waste awareness campaign to provide education and resources to residents and business owners about reducing wasted food.
The regional campaign focuses on four key strategies for household level food waste reduction, in alignment with the content and strategies from the national Save the Food campaign: meal planning, smart grocery shopping, proper food storage, and zero waste cooking.
The campaign also educates food businesses about best practices for preventing food waste in their operations and implementing food recovery programs in partnership with local nonprofit organizations.
The goal of Save the Food, San Diego! is to inspire all San Diegans to realize that everyone has a part to play in reducing wasted food. Small changes in our individual attitudes, behaviors, and habits go a long way.
